Eligibility Criteria
To apply, candidates need to meet specific educational and technical qualifications:
Academic Qualifications
- Matriculation: Minimum of 50% aggregate marks (not required for SC/ST/PwBD).

Selection Process
Selection Process for NFR Act Apprentice Recruitment
The selection process for NFR Act Apprenticeship is based on a carefully prepared merit list, categorized by unit, trade, and community.
Merit Calculation
- For Most Trades: Selection is based on the average marks obtained in Matriculation and ITI.
- For Laboratory Technician (Pathology and Radiology): Selection is based on marks from Matriculation and 12th-grade Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology).
Document Verification
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for document verification, at a ratio of 1.5 times the number of available slots in their chosen unit.
Tie-Breaker Criteria
- Older Candidates: When candidates have equal scores, the older candidate will be given priority.
- Same Age Candidates: If candidates share the same birthdate, those who completed their matriculation earlier will be ranked higher.
This process ensures a fair and transparent selection for all candidates.

- General Category: ₹100 (non-refundable)
- Exemptions: SC, ST, PwBD, EBC, and women candidates are exempt from fees.

Training Period and Stipend
- Monthly Stipend
Apprentices will receive a monthly stipend as per the prescribed rates for their trade. - Accommodation
Apprentices are required to arrange their own housing during training, as hostel facilities are not provided. Upon completing training, apprentices will be released from their positions.
Apprenticeship Agreement
Successful candidates must sign a Contract of Apprenticeship Training before beginning their apprenticeship in the designated trade. This contract includes the following provisions:
- Employer Responsibility
If the apprenticeship contract is terminated due to the employer not upholding the terms (as per the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992), the apprentice is entitled to compensation. - Apprentice Responsibility
If the apprentice fails to fulfill the contract terms, resulting in early termination, the apprentice (or their surety) must pay compensation as determined by the Apprenticeship Adviser to cover training costs. - Employment Obligation
The employer is not required to offer employment after the training period, nor is the apprentice obligated to accept any employment from the employer.
Note: If the selected candidate is underage, a guardian must sign the apprenticeship contract on their behalf.
Medical Fitness Requirement
In compliance with the Railway Board’s guidelines, each candidate must provide a medical certificate (as per Annexure-XI in the notification) during Document Verification. This certificate must be issued by a government-authorized doctor (Gazetted), holding the rank of at least an Assistant Surgeon in a central or state hospital. Document Verification will not proceed without this medical certificate, and the candidate’s application may be canceled if it is missing.
